The Korean-only units, and their exact values
Pyeong, geun and doe are still in daily use in Korean property, butchers’ shops and markets. The trouble is that rounded values circulate. Treat 1 pyeong as 3.3 m² and you are 0.18% out. On a 30-pyeong flat that is 0.17 m² and nobody notices; on a 1,000-pyeong land deal 5.79 m² — 1.75 pyeongsimply disappears. The exact value is 3.305785㎡(400/121).
| Unit | Exact value | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| 1 pyeong | 3.305785㎡ (400/121) | Housing and land area |
| 1 geun | 600g (meat, herbal medicine) | Butchers and markets. For vegetables and fruit, 375 g is sometimes used instead |
| 1 don | 3.75g | Gold, silver and other precious metals |
| 1 doe | 1.8ℓ | Grain, sesame oil, makgeolli |
| 1 ja (cheok) | 30.303cm | Hanbok and timber |
🔴 A geun is not always the same weight. Meat and herbal medicine are usually sold by the 600 g geun; fruit and vegetables often by a 375 g one. This converter uses 600 g. If you are buying “a geun” at a market, it is worth asking which one they mean.

Conversions people get wrong
An inch is exactly 2.54 cmby definition (the 1959 international yard and pound agreement). That is a definition, not a rounding, so there are no further decimals. The pound is likewise exactly 453.59237 g.
Temperature is subtract-then-multiply, not just multiply
To go from Fahrenheit to Celsius you subtract 32 first. 100°F is about 37.8°C, not 55.6°C. Unlike other units, the two temperature scales put zero in different places, so a simple ratio will always be wrong.
Is a KB 1,000 bytes or 1,024?
Both are in use. Operating systems such as Windows count in 1,024, while drive manufacturers count in 1,000. That is why a 1 TB external drive shows up as 931 GB. This converter follows Windows and uses 1,024.
